英语的“酷热、闷热、湿热”都怎么说呢?
我们用hot表示酷热、非常热,也可以用blistering、scorching、boiling、torrid来表达。
blistering表示“酷热的”,就用来强调天气极热。比如:This is a blistering summer day.这是一个酷热的夏日。
scorching指“炎热的”,形容热得让人难以忍受。比如:The sun feels scorching.太阳晒得人热辣辣的。That race was run in scorching weather.那次赛跑是在酷热的天气里进行的。
boiling指“炙热的”。比如:“It's boiling in here,”complained she.“这里热死了!”,她抱怨道。You must be boiling in that sweater!你穿着那件毛衣一定很热!
torrid指“炎热而干燥的;酷热的;灼热的”。比如:Taste the watermelon in the torrid summer.在炎热的夏日品尝西瓜吧。She almost can tolerate any kind of torrid days.她几乎能忍受各种酷热的天气。
当要表示“闷热,湿热”时,可以用形容词:sultry、stifling、stuffy、muggy、sweltering、sticky、humid、oppressive。
stifling意思是“闷热”,指特别热,让人感到浑身不舒服。比如:The summer heat was stifling.这个夏天热的让人几乎窒息。It's stifling! I can hardly breathe.天气太闷热了!我都没法呼吸了。
stuffy 指“闷热的;闷人的”。强调闷热的,不通气的,多指室内。比如:This is a stuffy room。这是一个闷热的房间。It gets very hot and stuffy in here in summer. 这里夏天很热很闷。
muggy 指“(天气) 闷热而潮湿的”。比如:It was muggy and overcast.那天天气闷热又潮湿,阴沉沉的。
sweltering指“闷热;酷热;酷热难耐的”,强调热得让人难受,要中暑了。比如: In the sweltering haze of summer-noon.在闷热蒸腾的夏天正午。It's sweltering here!这里太闷热了!
sultry指“闷热潮湿的”,强调天气热,而且空气又很潮湿,给人闷热的感觉。比如:The outside air was heavy and sultry. 户外的空气阴沉、潮湿而闷热。On a sultry afternoon, I have loose bowels.在一个闷热的下午,我拉肚子了。
humid 指“温暖潮湿的;湿热的”,人会因为热而出汗。比如:Visitors can expect hot and humid conditions.游客们会遇到炎热潮湿的天气状况。 The island is hot and humid in the summer.这个岛在夏季又热又潮湿。
oppressive指“闷热的”。比如:The oppressive afternoon heat had tired him out.湿热的午后暑气使他筋疲力尽。
sticky指“(皮肤因热而)黏湿的;(天气)湿热的,闷热的”。这种湿热是因为水汽不能蒸发掉。比如:This is a desperately hot, sticky day in the middle of August.这是八月中旬极其湿热的一天。
